The Hospital of the Future: Care, Technology, Capital, Approach

This video is from the 2007 Aspen Health Forum, called The Hospital of the Future, it features a discussion between David Eddy, Joe Hogan, John Maeda and Ken Weakley. It is valuable in showing the confluence of forces that impact healthcare design.

 Joe, great find.

Couple of comments:

• I almost missed that this is the first ten minutes of a one hour video and that the full program is at the link on the bottom right of the player.
• I thought the title was misleading.  Joe Hogan talked about the hospital of the future (clinical workflow, the impact of IT advances, the migration of services outside the hospital, the aging of the population impact and the greening of hospitals/environmental impact).  Ken Weakley talked about the current financial reality of hopsitals.  David Eddy’s talk (the information overload and how simulated physiology could lead to personalized guidelines) and John Maeda’s talk (some of the cutting edge technologies from the MIT Media Lab) had very little to do with hospitals of the future.  (The bookmarks below the video on FORA.tv are great since you can zoom in on your topic of interest)
• I am much more aligned with Clayton Christensen’s and Dan Cortese’s views on the future of hospitals and healthcare.
